Thom has been writing and broadcasting about money topics since 1983. Those include natural resources, biomedicals and special situations. Thom was the San Francisco Examiner‘s investing columnist. He also has appeared on the CBS Evening News, CBS Radio Network and the CBS MarketWatch Weekend television show. He was a London-based columnist for Bloomberg News and was the first online financial editor of USAToday.com.

Thom was editor of the 2002 book How America Made A Fortune & Lost Its Shirt by Steve Gelsi.
